By Thursday, the group had captured 20 females and 16 males. They made the trip to Scott City, Kansas planning to trap 40 foxes, 20 male and 20 female. Twelve of the animals were sent to the reservation Wednesday.
The swift fox trapping program was launched in Kansas to reintroduce the animals on the 221,000 acre reservation in central South Dakota. The tribe's work to reintroduce the fox will be the third such effort in South Dakota. The foxes will be put in a holding pen for release on September 20. Each will be fitted with a radio collar for tracking.
