Kansas has received a $754,000 federal grant for anti-domestic violence efforts in the state.

Governor Sebelius leads a coalition of law officers, prison officials and judiciary and victim assistance groups trying to curb domestic violence. The money will go toward setting up uniform training for all officials involved in trying to stop such abuse.

Kansas law officers reported more than 18,000 incidents of domestic violence in 2004. The number of domestic-violence homicides rose by nearly 67 percent that same year, from 15 in 2003 to 25.

More than ten-thousand protection orders from alleged abuse and stalking were filed with Kansas courts in that year.
