NYC Mom Gets 15 Years for Suffocating Infant Son

NEW YORK (AP) _ A New York City woman who suffocated her
2-week-old son after she picked him up from a hospital has been
sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Queens District Attorney Richard Brown says 27-year-old Lucila Rojas pleaded guilty to first-degree manslaughter last month. She was sentenced Thursday.

Prosecutors say she suffocated Anthony Rojas in December 2006 after picking him up from a Bronx hospital, where he was born prematurely. They say she dumped his body in Queens.

The body was never found despite an intensive search.

Defense attorney John Scarpa says Rojas never intended to kill her child.

Rojas initially told police her baby had been kidnapped at gunpoint.
