Imagine if government regulation of home loans were turned over to the banks! Wait. You don't have to imagine. Look at the billions of dollars of your tax money propping up the banks.
Imagine if government regulation of stocks were turned over to the investment firms. Wait. You don't have to imagine. Look at the billions of dollars in lost money in your last 401K statement.
Imagine if the government regulation of the environment was turned over to out-of-state coal and power companies. Wait. You don't have to imagine. Take a look at states like New Jersey and Louisiana that made it easy for those companies to pollute. Now those state's are fighting a hard battle to clean up the mess caused by un-regulated company plans.
Now the leadership of the state legislature wants to eliminate state enviromental authority. And while Republicans want to start by giving the power company's an open door in building new power plants... it won't stop there.
Imagine you had the power to stop the home mortgage crisis, or the financial meltdown of your 401K? Would you act?
You have the power to tell legislators you don't want out-of-state polluters to do what they want in Kansas. Call your legisltors. Write your legislators. Then, email your legislators. Tell them you want no changes in the state's ability to reject faulty power plants.
Agree or disagree, I want to know what you think. Write me here at WIBW or at firstname.lastname@example.org. Or post your comments at the Kansas Voices section of WIBW.com.
