Students from as far away as Blue Springs, Missouri and Wichita squared off in Topeka to see who knew the globe best.

Topeka's Heritage Christian School hosted the Association of Christian Schools International's Regional Geography Bowl.

Third through eighth grade students tested their knowledge of people and places. For the students, it's not only about maps. They say they thrive on the competition!

Besides Heritage Christian, schools competing were Open Door from Kansas City, Kansas; Central Christian from Wichita; and Plaza Heights from Blue Springs, Missouri. Winners went home with ribbons and certificates.

Among the eight Heritage students competing, Caleb Current topped the fifth graders, while seventh grader Kosten Ward and fourth grader Raegan Cowsert took seconds.

This was the first year the association has held a geography bowl. Next year will feature a national competition.
