A tractor accident takes the life of an elderly woman in Morris County. It happened off a rural road in Alta Vista. A town south of I-70 not far from highway 99.
Morris County sheriff's deputies responded to the call of a woman stuck underneath a farm tractor a little after six this evening. Verlene Bookman had apparently just finished loading hay when her tractor ran off the road near 600 G Avenue in Alta Vista. She somehow got trapped underneath it.
Bookman's husband found her and called emergency workers. Rescuers had trouble freeing Bookman from underneath the tractor. Lifestar was initially called out, but the helicopter was rerouted when the woman in her seventies lost her life.
Morris County Sheriff Scott Coover says it was just a tragic accident.
