Mayor Bill Bunten announced Tuesday night to a crowd at the Downtown Topeka, Inc. dinner.. that he plans to run for re-election as Topeka's mayor in April. Bunten made his political plans known during the "State of the City" speech he delivers to the DTI audience every January.
"I would like to see the city regain its swagger, and take pride in who we are.. and if that happens.. I would like to be a part of it," the mayor told the audience at the Ramada Hotel.
Bunten told 13 News earlier this year he would assess progress on revising the city's charter before making his decision. As the council prepares to look over ways to evaluate the charter creating the system for a city manager and the mayor as a member of the governing body, Bunten has already made his decision that he will run for the office.
State of the City comments and reaction are on the way tonight on 13 News at 10.
