Fire Prompts Weeklong Closure of Coleman Co. Plant

MAIZE, Kan. (AP) _ All shifts have been canceled for the rest of this week at a Wichita-area Coleman Co. plant that was the scene of a flash fire.

The fire reportedly started around 1:15 p.m. Monday at a station where valve repair is done to canisters filled with the flammable gas propylene.

The Wichita-based camping and equipment maker said in a prepared statement that there was some damage to a ventilation system in the room where the fire occurred, but there was no structural damage.

The release, which was sent out Tuesday morning, said that an employee injured in the fire remained hospitalized in serious but stable condition. The employee sustained second-degree burns on his hands and face.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
