Students Learn a New Kind of History Lesson

TOPEKA, KAN. -- Students at McEachron Elementary enjoyed their history lesson in a new way today.

The entire student body watched the inauguration ceremony for President Barack Obama from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m on TV.

The elementary's student council also passed out about 350 commemorative bookmarks to each student. The students raised funds for the Obama bookmarks by selling "spirit cookies" each Friday.

Principal Victor Williams said it was important for students to understand the impact of the historic inauguration today. McEachron Elementary was one of the few schools to showcase the event for its students, serving students from kindergarten to fifth grade.
