Kansas Budget Cuts Hits Social Services

By  |

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ Gov. Kathleen Sebelius said she would try to protect the state's most vulnerable citizens from service cuts as she looked for ways to trim spending.

But legislators and advocates for the developmentally disabled say didn't try hard enough.

Republican lawmakers say she didn't cut education dollars _ at the expense of social services and other state programs. Many say public schools need to take a bigger hit.
