A Kansas girl is taking center stage in one of america's most famous TV talent shows.

19-year-old Jessica Furney of Wamego got a ticket to Hollywood in Wednesday night's "American Idol" on the FOX network.

KMAN radio in Manhattan reports Furney is a 2007 graduate of Wamego High School.

She was one of 26 contestants chosen during try-outs in Kansas City. She got a thumbs up from all the judges after singing Janis Joplin's "Cry Baby." Simon Cowell even said he liked her small town attitude.
