FORT RILEY, Kan. - Kansas City Royals' fans will have the opportunity to meet some of their favorite players and Royals' staff when the KC Royals Caravan, sponsored by Fox Sports Kansas City, rolls into Fort Riley from noon to 2 p.m. Jan. 20.
Pitchers Gil Meche and Kyle Davies, along with Royals' Hall of Famer John Mayberry, broadcaster Steve Stewart and Royals' mascot Sluggerrr are expected to be on hand to meet with Soldiers at the 1st Brigade dining facility at Camp Funston from noon to 12:45 p.m. The caravan will then travel to the Post Exchange on Custer Hill, where the players and staff will meet with the public to sign autographs and provide photo opportunities from 1 to 2 p.m.
"Military members and their Families are so important to our community, especially in times of war," said Ben Aken, director of community relations for the Royals. "This is an important opportunity for the Royals to get to know the Soldiers and their Families and show their appreciation for the sacrifices they make for us every year."
In addition to the meet and greet, a $25,000 check will be presented to 2nd Brigades' Family Readiness Groups and a token of appreciation will be given at 1:15 p.m. at the PX.
The Kansas City Royals have embarked on the annual Royals Caravan since 1968. In addition to its Fort Riley stop, the 2009 caravan, presented by Fox Sports Kansas City, will travel to 34 other communities throughout Kansas, Missouri, Arkansas, Iowa, Oklahoma and Nebraska.
