Evidence Disputed as Kansas 'Pill Mill' Trial Nears

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ A Wichita-area physician and his wife accused of running a 'pill mill' linked to 59 drug overdose deaths go to trial in three weeks.

Now prosecutors and defense attorneys are in a bitter battle over what evidence jurors will get to see in the case of Dr. Stephen Schneider and his wife, nurse Linda Schneider.

The defense wants to introduce evidence about more than 900 patients kicked out for not following pain treatment guidelines of the couple's Haysville clinic. Prosecutors want jurors to hear only evidence relating to patients who died.

Prosecutors also want the Schneiders and their attorneys held in contempt for allowing access to the clinic. They claim the office paper shredder was full when marshals seized the property. The defense contends there was no wrongdoing.

A hearing is scheduled for Monday.
