LEAVENWORTH, Kan. (AP) _ A convicted murderer has been charged
with another killing and fleeing from police.

Thirty-one-year-old Matthew Astorga of rural Lansing is
scheduled to make his first court appearance Wednesday in
Leavenworth County District Court. He was charged Monday with
first-degree murder, criminal possession of a firearm and fleeing
or attempting to elude police.

Astorga is accused of mortally wounding 50-year-old Ruben
Rodriguez on Friday during a fight outside Rodriguez's Leavenworth
home.

He was arrested after his truck became stuck in a muddy field.

A handgun was recovered from the truck, which was illegal for
Astorga to possess because he had spent time in prison and on
probation after pleading guilty to murder in New Mexico.

Bond has been set at $1 million.
