Students at South Coffey County Middle School likely won't return to their building this school year. Leroy Gridley Superintendent Mike Kastle tells 13 news the decision came at a special board meeting Tuesday night.
Winds gusting nearly 80 miles per hour early Saturday morning did major damage to the school's roofs, which allowed water to get inside and damage the ceiling, too.
Insurance adjusters say it's not safe for students to be inside until repairs are made. Gifth graders will move to Gridley Elementary, while the Christian Church has offered space for sixth, seventh and eighth graders.
The entire district will be off Monday while staff works to set up the new areas. Movers will also be bagging items from students' lockers and moving them to the new locations.
