TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW)__ Motorists got a shock this weekend if they were traveling south and west of Topeka.
A massive transformer over 43-feet long, 24-feet wide and 30-feet tall, weighing 365-tons is making its way to Auburn, KS. The transformer is part of a 150-million dollar investment by Westar Energy to modernize the electrical grid that serves more than 82,000 customers in Topeka and Shawnee County.
The transformer moves less than 5 mph and a 3-foot deep path had to be dug out of a dirt road for the transformer to fit under a bridge.
