Fund Set Up for Ill Middle School Girl

TOPEKA, Kan. - Following a penny war fundraiser at Washburn Rural Middle School and the decision of a 13-year-old student, a fund has been set up to help seventh-grader Jessical Seidel.

Jessica has Hemphagocytic Lymphohistiocytosis, Eosinophilic Gastroenteritis, is TPN dependent, and started chemotherapy for the HLH on November 6, 2008. She had to go to Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City and hasn't been able to continue her fall semester of seventh grade.

A penny war was organized by Anne Crawford's 7th grade team at WRMS to raise money for charity, including money for the Seidel family. That spurred an idea by the Herrman family, whose son Drake was in Jessica's science class before she got too sick to return to school. Drake talked his little brother and sister into giving the okay for his mom, Lyndsey, to return the Wii they were getting for Christmas to give that $260 to Jessica.

Hearing Drake's story, other students and families decided they also wanted to help the Seidels during this difficult time.

Anyone wanting to help can now make a donation at Heritage Bank, Topeka. You can mail or drop off money to the bank at: Heritage Bank, (Checks payable to Jessica or her dad, David Seidel), 3024 SW Wanamaker Road, Topeka, KS 66614.
