Illinois Governor Confers with Defense Attorney

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) _ The criminal lawyer representing
Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich says the governor doesn't plan to step down because he hasn't done anything wrong.

Attorney Ed Genson made the comment Monday night after a meeting
with Blagojevich. Genson's previous high-profile clients include
newspaper baron Conrad Black and R&B singer R. Kelly.

Genson says he would handle both the criminal and possible impeachment cases against the governor.

Blagojevich is accused of attempting to sell an appointment to the Senate seat formerly held by Barack Obama.

The governor could wind up being tried in federal court. And the Illinois House has voted 113-0 to create a bipartisan committee that will study the allegations against Blagojevich and recommend whether he should be impeached.
