Court Hearing Set for Man Appealing Capital Murder Conviction

A court hearing is set for a man appealing his capital murder conviction and death sentence. Phillip Cheatham claims his attorney, Dennis Hawver, was incompetent.

Cheatham was sentenced to death for the December 2003 killings of Annette Roberson and Gloria Jones. He was also found guilty of shooting Annette Thomas 19 times. She did survive the shooting.

The Supreme Court has ruled the district court must first decide an attorney competency issue. A motions hearing is set for January 20th, with the hearing on the issue itself scheduled for April 21st.
