Kansas Governor Names Douglas County Judge

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ Gov. Kathleen Sebelius named Sally Pokorny as a Douglas County District Court judge.

The appointment was announced Friday for Pokorny, 54, an attorney in Lawrence who also was in private practice in Coffeyville and Independence for 20 years.

She fills the vacancy due to the retirement of Judge Jack Murphy.

In addition to private practice, Pokorny's past experience includes working as a child support enforcement attorney with the state, as Cherryvale city attorney, Montgomery County attorney, assistant district attorney and pro tem district court judge in Shawnee County.
