Rivals Continue Fight over Power Lines

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ A Michigan-based company attempting to build
ultra high-voltage transmission lines in Kansas denied reports from
a rival that they've reached a compromise.

Prairie Wind Transmission issued a news release Friday saying it had submitted to state regulators a compromise plan for developing the lines with ITC Great Plains.

But ITC spokeswoman Kimberly Gencur Svaty said there was no deal
and that parts of the proposal have never been cleared by regional
utility authorities.

A spokeswoman from Westar Energy Inc., a part-owner of Prairie
Wind, didn't immediately return a phone call for comment.

The two sides have spent the last few months jousting over the right to build the line from Wichita to the Oklahoma border and up to Dodge City.
