Lawrence Woman Gets 14½ Years for Beating Death

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) _ A Lawrence woman is sentenced to 14 ½ years in prison in the beating death of a 62-year-old man in his mobile home.

Before 37-year-old Shanna Friday was sentenced Tuesday in Douglas County District Court, she lashed out at prosecutors and detectives. She shouted "I'm tired of this liars' club. Hurry up and send me to prison.''

On Nov. 7, Friday was found guilty of second-degree murder in the killing of Jerry DeShazer. Co-defendant Jerod Buffalohead testified he saw Friday hit DeShazer in the head and face with a bottle. DeShazer bled to death.

Buffalohead pleaded guilty in September to voluntary manslaughter and was sentenced to five years in prison.

Friday said she was not responsible for Deshazer's death, and vowed to appeal her conviction.
