Topeka Police handled a slew of accidents in the snowy weather Tuesday, one of which killed an 84-year old man
Dean H. Masters, of Moran, lost control of his vehicle while travelling South on the Highway 75's Westgate Bridge Tuesday morning, according to Topeka Police. He then struck the guardrail on the east side of the bridge.
Emergency crews rushed Masters to the hospital where he died.
Officials say they don't know whether the snow, speed or alcohol might have been factors, though they did note that it was snowing at the time of the accident and snow and slush had accumulted on the roadway.
Topeka Police also handled two other injury accidents during the day Tuesday, along with six fender benders and one hit and run. They also took more than a dozen calls of vehicles causing traffic disruptions, things like spinning off into the ditch.
With so many traffic tie-ups, TPD spent most of the day in Phase III response. For accidents with no injuries, and the vehicles can be moved, drivers should exchange information, and file a report as soon as possible.
