Snowy Conditions Move Topeka Roads To Phase III

By  |

The Topeka Police Department is asking victims of non-injury accidents to move vehicles off the road if possible, exchange information, and report the accident within 24 hours.

This comes after a high volume of accidents due to a wintry mix topping roads. Officials have said the I-70 and Hwy 75 interchange is especially slippery.

City officials described bridge temperatures at 10 a.m. Tuesday morning as hovering around the freezing point, with roadway temperatures slightly higher.

Road crews began before the snow started, pretreating bridges to prevent snow and ice from sticking. Workers will initially focus on the busiest streets, the main streets and arterial roads. They will then proceed to the roads which connect neighborhoods with the arteries before moving to residential areas as needed.

To report hazardous road conditions, the city is asking residents to call the City of Topeka Call Center at 368-3111
