The stage is set for a study on expanding Amtrak passenger service between Kansas City, Oklahoma City, and Fort Worth, Texas.
Amtrak and the Kansas Department of Transportation agreed Thursday to the scope of a feasibility study. It will look at potential schedules; railcar and locomotive availability; and rail improvement needs along the 606-mile route.
Lawrence, Topeka and Emporia are all identified as potential stops.
KDOT budgeted $200,000 for the study. It should be completed sometime next year.
