TOPEKA - Efforts to rewrite the state's gambling law are getting little support from the new House speaker and even less from Senate leaders.
Incoming speaker Mike O'Neal says gambling isn't a solution to the state's budget problems.
O'Neal says many lawmakers think the state can rely on gambling
revenue. But the Hutchinson Republican says the money ``isn't there
and it's not going to be there.''
House Republicans picked O'Neal as their leader Monday, ousting
incumbent Speaker Melvin Neufeld, of Ingalls.
Passage of the gambling law last year was a factor. Some
conservatives were frustrated that it happened despite their
opposition.. and Neufeld's.
