Dollar mixed, gold down in afternoon trading

LONDON (AP) -- The U.S. dollar was mixed against other major currencies in European trading Friday afternoon. Gold fell.

The euro traded at $1.2705, down from $1.2899 late Wednesday in New York. U.S. markets were closed Thursday for a holiday.

Other dollar rates:

-95.62 Japanese yen, down from 95.73

-1.2141 Swiss francs, up from 1.2035

-1.2356 Canadian dollars, up from 1.2271

The British pound was quoted at $1.5412, up from $1.5350.

Gold traded in London at $814.50 per troy ounce, down from $816.20.
