All-White Jury at Center of Murder Appeal

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ A man convicted in the death of his pregnant 14-year-old girlfriend says he'll base his all-white jury for appeal.

The Wichita Eagle reported Wednesday that Elgin "Ray Ray'' Robinson Jr. said in a jailhouse interview that when he saw that there were no minorities on the jury, he knew he had no chance of acquittal.

Now 22, Robinson said that he hopes to use his all-white jury as one aspect of his appeal. Chelsea Brooks was pregnant with Robinson's child when she was killed.

Her body was found buried in Butler County on June 15, 2006, about a week after she disappeared from a Wichita skating rink. Prosecutors said Robinson orchestrated Chelsea's death, and a jury convicted him Oct. 22 of capital murder and rape, among other charges.

Robinson's sentencing hearing is next week.
