A group who works with juvenile offenders stepped up its efforts to help the community.

Staff of the Kansas Juvenile Correctional Complex presented a check for $14,400 to the United Way of Greater Topeka. The facility raised the money through pledges, raffles, an auction, luncheon and other activities.

KJCC Assistant Superintendent David Arnold says the staff knows it's an important cause. He says several of their families have directly benefited from United Way services. He says it's wonderful to be able to see their donations at work in their own community.

KJCC says it's especially proud its efforts topped last year's by more than $4000.
