JOHNSON CITY, Kan. (AP) _ First-degree murder and conspiracy charges have been dismissed against a southwest Kansas couple accused of killing the woman's ex-boyfriend, whose body has never been found.
The state attorney general's office says the charges were dismissed Monday without prejudice. That means the state can refile the case if it finds evidence that strengthens its case against Chad and Shannon Floyd of rural Stanton County.
Two previous murder trials in the case ended in hung juries. The attorney general's office says it was afraid a third hung jury could prompt a judge to dismiss the case with prejudice.
The Floyds were accused of killing Michael Golub of Johnson City, who shared custody of a child with Shannon Floyd. Golub was last seen on his way to the Floyds' home to pick up the boy.
