MOUNDRIDGE, Kan. (AP) _ A Florida man died after his tire blew out and his car flipped into the median in central Kansas late Friday night.

The Kansas Highway Patrol says Henry J. Hawkins, 66, of Homestead, Fla., was southbound on Interstate 135 at about 7 p.m. near Moundridge when he swerved to the left to avoid another vehicle that was overtaking him.

The front right tire on Hawkins' Ford pickup then went flat, and a car struck the rear left of Hawkins' truck. Hawkins' vehicle swerved and lost control, rolling into the median.

Hawkins was killed. He was not wearing a seat belt.
