A long-awaited project in Emporia is finally complete.
The Granada Theatre was built in 1929. It was supposed to be demolished, but an Emporia businessman saved the old structure. He helped put together "The Granada Theatre Alliance."
The group raised more than $3 million to completely restore and renovate the building. It re-opened about a month ago after a 14-year renovation.
Board member Doug Ford says the project means a lot to the city. He says it's help revitalize the area, creating a fun atmosphere benefiting all the area shops when a performance is held.
Ninety percent of that construction work was done locally.
