WASHINGTON (AP) _ President-elect Barack Obama's top choice to
be the next attorney general appears to be Washington attorney Eric
Holder.

Obama aides have gone so far as to ask senators about Holder's chances of being confirmed. But an Obama official says no final
decision has been made.

Holder was the No. 2 official in the Justice Department under President Bill Clinton. The 57-year-old is also a former judge and U.S. attorney in Washington. He's been one of Obama's most trusted advisers and was part of the team that helped select Joe Biden to be Obama's running mate.

Holder did not return messages seeking comment Tuesday. When asked
Monday by The Associated Press about whether he expected to be
nominated, Holder responded in an e-mail: ``Who knows?''
