WICHITA - Cessna Aircraft Co. is cutting 665 jobs, 500 of them in Wichita.
The other job cuts are coming from Cessna's plant in Bend, Oregon.
The layoffs announced Wednesday are not unexpected. The Wichita-based company warned employees earlier this month that it would make work force reductions because of the global economic downturn.
Cessna spokesman Doug Oliver says employees will learn within the next couple of weeks about whether they will be laid off.
The large layoff triggers federal laws that require a 60-day waiting period before the cuts are effective. That means they will take effect in late January or early February.
Oliver says the layoffs are across the board. The company will also shut down the plant a couple days earlier for its annual holiday shutdown in December.
