Wilson Asks for Riley County Recount

TOPEKA - Republican Sen. Roger Reitz of Manhattan ended up winning a second term by 21 votes, but his Democratic opponent wants a re-count.
The secretary of state's office said Rusty Wilson, also of
Manhattan, made the deadline of 5:00 Wednesday, to request a re-count of votes in Geary and Riley counties which makes up the 22nd
Wilson requested a hand recount of all votes, and he will have to pay the estimated $7,300 cost. The re-count must be completed by 5 p.m. Monday.
Senate leaders are watching the race because Reitz is expected
to back Senate President Steve Morris, a moderate Republican from
Hugoton, in his bid for a second term. Morris is opposed by Senator
Susan Wagle, a conservative Republican from Wichita.
