Payless Chain to Give Away Shoes Through Charities

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ Retailer Payless ShoeSource plans to give out 65,000 reduced-price or free pairs of shoes to children over the next two months through a partnership with local nonprofit organizations.

Today, the Topeka-based company is announcing the Payless Gives Shoes 4 Kids program. It will provide $15 gift coupons toward a pair of shoes at any of its almost 4,000 U.S. stores.

Payless is asking nonprofits interested in helping distribute the shoe coupons to apply at its Web site ( through Nov. 21. After that, the company will select the charities.
