A 63-year-old Tennessee man is dead after being accidentally shot while bird hunting in northcentral Kansas. The Rooks County Sheriff's Office said William Dudley Carter of Adams, Tennessee, died Saturday as a result of wounds to his head and upper chest.

A sheriff's statement said Carter was accidentally shot when a covey of quail took flight. He and four others had been hunting pheasants and quail about 7 miles northeast of Stockton.
