Man Attacked In Motel Room; Attacker Sent to Hospital

Topeka, KS (WIBW)-- A man was attacked in a motel room at the Traveller's Inn on the 3800 block of SW Topeka Blvd. just before midnight Wednesday.

Candi Peters who is an employee at Traveller's Inn says earlier there was a complaint about loud noise coming from room 221. Security went to the room and told them they needed to be quiet. Peters said she turned all the security cameras she had on outside the room to watch what was going on.

"I could see a man with a pipe in is hand," Peters said.

What Peters couldn't see from the security camera was a man in his 40's getting struck by that pipe. Topeka Police Officer Tim Ireland said another man in the room was also striking the victim with an object. The victim in self defense pulled out a pocket knife and cut one of the suspects.

"When we arrived on the scene we found a victim who had been cut on the arm, he was bleeding pretty bad," Ireland said.

That suspect was taken to Stormont Vail Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. The other suspect got away, police didn't release any specific information on how he left the Inn.

Ireland said that he isn't sure what provoked the fight. He says those at the Traveller's Inn are working well with officials and credits them for their security operations in place.

"I fear it could have been worse without the cameras," Peters said.

Anyone with information regarding the attack is asked to call Topeka Detectives at 785-368-9400.
