Hawker Beechcraft cutting work force

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ Aircraft maker Hawker Beechcraft says it
will lay off about 490 workers in the next few days in expectation
of lower plane deliveries.

Spokesman Andrew Broom says the Wichita-based company sent
letters about the cuts to employees on Saturday.

Chief executive officer James Schuster says in the letter that
the company plans to cut 5 percent of its work force.

Hawker Beechcraft has about 9,800 employees worldwide, including
about 7,000 at the Wichita plant. The cuts will affect hourly and
salaried workers alike.

There's no word yet on how many of the cuts will be made in
Kansas.
