WICHITA, Kan. (AP) _ A consent judgment filed in Sedgwick County District Court says the city of Valley Center violated the Kansas Open Meetings Law.

District Attorney Nola Foulston says Friday that her investigation found the city violated a provision of the act by not properly notifying certain individuals of a July 24 special meeting.

The court finds the city failed to notify 21 individuals who had properly requested notification of all regular and special meetings of the city council.

Foulston says in a news release that the city administrator mistakenly believed sufficient notice had been given by announcing the special meeting at an earlier meeting and by publishing a notice in the newspaper on the day of the meeting.

The city agreed to train city staff with notification requirements. It is also required to pay a $100 fine and the costs of the action.
