Too Young To Vote

TOPEKA - They are not registered with any political party, and their votes wont elect the next president. But they do have opinions, and now they have a voice.

Seaman District 5th graders have been learning about the candidates and the issues through class discussion and projects. During this election season, they have been talking about issues like the economy, health care, the war in Iraq and the environment. On election day, the class will hold an election for the students in their class.

"They are aware of a lot of the problems in the world and some of the those things directly affect them," Diane Taylor, Seaman Elementary Gifted Facilitator said. "So it's good to see them do some analyzing of what is going on and hopefully what they do now will inspire them to vote later on."
