Women Get Busy on State Tree Ornament

TOPEKA, Kan. - With Christmas exactly eight weeks away, one group of women is busy preparing.

Volunteers for the "Kansas Tree Ornaments" got to work this week packing up ornaments and putting them in plastic bubbles. They'll be shipped to Washington, D.C. to hang on the Kansas tree.

Anita Wolgast, Designer of Kansas Tree Ornaments, started the tradition in 1981.

This year the ornaments honor the Kansas Jayhawks NCAA Championship win.

The Kansas and other state trees are placed around the national tree in D.C. The president and first lady will light them at a special ceremony December 4.
