Advance Voting Up in Kansas

Election officials in Kansas are seeing a surge of interest in advance voting.

Secretary of State Ron Thornburgh says a third of the ballots could be cast before the November 4 election.

In the last presidential election in 2004, 20 percent of the voters cast their ballots in advance. This year, Thornburgh said, requests for advance ballots are more than 50 percent higher.

In Shawnee County, more than 700 people showed up at the election Commissioner's Office when advance balloting opened tuesday.
