DODGE CITY, Kan. (AP) _ The Ford County Commission has authorized a company to move forward with plans for a wind farm in the county's southeast corner.
The commission voted 3-0 Monday to approve a conditional use permit and development plan for Western Trail Wind Project I.
Horizon Wind Energy project manager Mark Lawlor says the Houston-based company is planning a wind farm capable of generating up to 400 megawatts of electricity. The cost of the project is unclear and there's no timeline yet for construction.
But Commission Chairman Kim Goodnight says the project is good economic news for the western Kansas county.
Horizon is also building the 201-megawatt Meridian Way wind farm in Concordia.
