3-Year-Old Dies From Gun Shot Injury; Name Released

Topeka, KS (WIBW) The 3-year-old boy that was shot in the head Friday has been taken off of life support according to reports from the Topeka Capital Journal.

The report also says that family members have identified the boy as TreVonte Williams.

Topeka Police Lt. Chris Heaven says they are not confirming that the boy has been taken off of life support, they are also not confirming his identity at this time.

The toddler was shot around 2:15 p.m. at Cathedral Square Apartments at 8th & Polk in Topeka.

Topeka Police Lt. Chris Heaven says the mother was holding the child outside of the apartment complex when they arrived. The toddler was rushed to Stormont Vail Hospital.

Police would like to speak with 15-year-old Sylk Je'non White regarding the shooting, he is listed as a "material witness."

White is also being sought on a warrant for aggravated robbery out of Shawnee County.

Lt. Heaven says in the latest report coming in that the plan was to LifeStar the little boy to Children's Mercy Hospital in KC that flight has been canceled because of his condition. The flight will be reschedule if and when doctors think he will survive the change in hospitals.

Lt. Heaven also reports that the boys mother was questioned by Topeka Police and has since been released.

There are no reports on who pulled the trigger and officials are not confirming that the shooting is accidental. No arrests have been made in connection to the shooting. More than a dozen witnesses have been interviewed.

Making the situation even worse a relative of the toddler's was struck by an A-M-R ambulance in the parking lot of the complex. Officials say his foot was ran over and he was treated by A-M-R paramedics at the scene.

The victim's name is not being released at this time.
