A current Shawnee County Commissioner is battling a former colleague to keep his seat. Incumbent Democrat Ted Ensley and Republican Challenger Mike Meier debated the issues Thursday at Avondale East Elementary.
Meier previously represented the Second Commission District, but is now in Ensley's district three.
Both explained why they're the best person for the job.
Ensley says he's had a long committment to Topeka and Shawnee County. He says the word "passion" would describe the way in which he approaches his position.
Meier says he believes he'd be able to approach the budget in a way that would save taxpayers money. He also says he doesn't believe in playing games behind the scenes.
The general election is November 4th.
