Congressional Race Heats Up Between Boyda, Jenkins

TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) _ Republican challenger Lynn Jenkins still faces questions about her performance as state treasurer while running in the 2nd Congressional District.

And the Kansas Republican Party has a new attack on Democratic Congresswoman Nancy Boyda.

The Topeka Capital-Journal reports that Jenkins waited two months to notify counties about problems in the distribution of motor fuels tax and vehicle registration fee revenues.

The state distributes $2.5 million a year to counties. Jenkins told the governor in April that the formula had been flawed since 1999, before she became treasurer. She said her staff caught the problem when auditors didn't.

Meanwhile, the Kansas GOP has unveiled a new, anti-Boyda display outside its Topeka offices.
