Shawnee County got its first Hispanic district court judge today.
Judge Cheryl Rios-Kingfisher was sworn in this afternoon at 3:30. Her duty as a district court judge will be to oversee both criminal and civil assignments.
She says she is honored to serve her community.
Kingfisher is not new to the Shawnee County court room. She served as an assistant Shawnee County district attorney from 2001 to 2005.
