LAWRENCE - The Free State Brewing Company in Lawrence says a fire will postpone, but not cancel, its plans to expand. It will take some time to make that expansion a reality. Sunday's fire caused more than $1 million in damage.
The company's brewing facility in Lawrence was damaged by fire early yesterday. No one was inside the building and no injuries were reported. A cause has not been determined.
Brewmaster Steve Bradt said only refrigeration equipment was running at the time of the fire. The plant contained brewing equipment and malted barley, wheat and hops.
Free State has been overhauling the plant for months. It plans to significantly increase production from the 2,700 barrels of beer
per year it brews at its downtown location.
