Topeka City Council meetings may soon go dark if one council member gets his way. Deputy Mayor Jeff Preisner wants the city to stop providing TV coverage on TV City channel 4 to save money.

His proposal goes before the council at Tuesday's meeting. Mayor Bill Bunten doesn't believe there will be enough votes to pass, but said it is possible Preisner could have already talked to council members individually to get the votes.

John Moyer, a concerned citizen from a Topeka neighborhood association says this is a step back for transparency in government.

Preisner's plan would substitute audio recordings of the meetings for live television broadcasts.

Preisner could not be reached for comment. Click on the video to hear what Bunten and Moyer had to say.
